Dealing With Diabetic Neuropathy? Natural Moisturizers For Healthy, Pain-Free Feet

As a new diabetic, you may already understand the importance of changing your eating and exercise routine. From reducing your intake of sugar and starches to adding exercise into your daily schedule, these changes are imperative for your overall health and wellness. Unfortunately, you may not be placing enough emphasis on foot care. While surprising to hear, an estimated 50 percent of patients with type 1 or type 2 diabetes suffer with diabetic neuropathy.

This common complication of diabetes causes nerve damage to your limbs, resulting in numbness, pain, and even the loss of a foot or leg. Using these natural moisturizers, you can reduce your risk of developing diabetic neuropathy.

Vitamin E

Found in a variety of cosmetics, lotions, and beauty products, vitamin E can improve the look, feel, and underlying health of your skin and hair. Not only does it moisturize and heal skin, but vitamin E also improves your body's blood circulation due to its antioxidant properties.  To improve your skin and reduce your risk of developing diabetic neuropathy, combine the following ingredients to create a natural, effective moisturizer:

  • 1 Vitamin E capsule
  • 3 Ounces of Mineral Oil
  • 3 Ounces of Shea Butter
  • ½ Teaspoon of Tea Tree Oil

After bathing, dry with a clean towel. Be sure your feet and legs are dry, as well. Massage the moisturizer into your feet, ankles, and the lower parts of each leg. Do not moisturize the spaces between your toes, as these are common areas of fungal growth. Allow the moisturizer to soak in to your skin completely and cover them with a special pair of diabetic socks for men or women.

Coconut Oil

Consuming coconut oil each day can regulate your blood sugar levels and improve your metabolism. However, the antifungal, antibacterial, and antifungal agents in coconut oil are also beneficial to your diabetic skin. These agents will prevent the development of harmful infections, as well.

Each night after bathing, dry off completely. Apply a tablespoon of coconut oil to each foot and massage using your fingers. Use circular motions to massage the coconut oil in completely, working from the bottom of your feet up towards your knees.

After the oil soaks into your skin, place moisture-wicking socks on your feet and wear while you sleep.

Proper cleaning and moisturizing of your feet is essential for reducing infections, improving circulation, and decreasing pain and numbness from your diabetic neuropathy. Using these natural moisturizers, your feet will be clean, healthy, and pain-free.
